I haven’t publicly shared the knowledge of how to summon daeva. Did you somehow get that from me anyway, or what? What on Earth is this post doing in the backstage general discussion thread...?

I moved it here, because the post it was replying to was edited to not mention having tried to summon daeva. Retcon.

I still see the comment about daeva in gabriael’s post.

Oh dear. I think I might have gotten confused because he keeps posting the same paragraphs in multiple places.

Okay, after receiving confirmation that blind-jumping is a routine part of Survey work, I have altered my estimates and 1033 is now Cordelia's starting max MP. Now to write up more estimates for Illyan and Aral...
Illyan gets 32 MP. Poor sucker's had a desk job most of his life. All his excitement is vicarious.
Aral gets an estimated 119 MP for his pre-Shards of Honor military career, almost an order of magnitude less than his wife's despite it being more than twice as long, and his grand total is 173 after adding in canon events and a few more extrapolations.
I should estimate Mark next but I'll have a while to do it in because they need to find him first.
Also, Cordelia can recharge one use of wish in not quite 7 minutes.
Become a captain in the Betan Astronomical Survey and earn outrageous XP!

Would Mark actually have any? He’s been plenty harrowed, but you actually need to win your encounter, and I get the impression Mark has done very little winning.

That's only true when there's an afterlife in play, I thought.

The relevance of the afterlife was that it might (if sufficiently internalized) make some experiences that would otherwise be life-or-death no longer count. I don't think it affects MP gained from an encounter that definitely counts.

The relevant line was “The existence of an afterlife doesn't necessarily block fasttracking, but you only get the boost if you win. You have to alieve that you're in danger of something thoroughly catastrophic, like dying or someone you care about a lot dying; it won't work if on a fundamental level you feel like failing would be basically okay.”. This was paraphrased or copied from a PM where I asked if Andrew could fasttrack; since he would still alieve in the danger he could.
I interpret it to mean that afterlifes are irrelevant except insofar as they affect alief, and that any encounter you lose doesn’t count. You might lose the encounter and die, in which case you don’t have extra MP in the afterlife; you might lose the encounter and not die, in which case you don’t have extra MP with which to fight back next time.

Daniel's interpretation is correct.
Mark shooting Galen definitely earns XP, and more than Miles would for doing the same thing, because of the panic-programming.

Mark has done some winning in the sense that he has survived some shit that was difficult to survive, and done at least some of that through skill or effort rather than luck. But yeah. Most of his XP is probably going to come from the circumstances of his rescue, so I'm going to hold off on totaling him up.

Going through Galen's helltraining definitely counts for some stuff. He would have come out much worse if he'd just zoned out, and it's definitely a factor in who he is.
