Having conjured all the SCP documents, Andrew has discovered SCP-005. His reaction is—perfectly proportionate to the discovery—“Oh fucking shit no! Oh fuck! That can’t be good!”. He has contacted Mother Starlight about the possibility of hacking the forum because of this and because of some other recent events.

This makes me wonder: Obviously sonatagreen isn’t on the forum 24/7. Are we to assume that Mother Starlight responds to PMs and such instantly (or that it takes only as much time to compose the response or do whatever else relevant), or when we actually get the response?

'When we get the response' seems more reasonable. After all, forum-time is not perfectly congruent with non-forum time, so even if the responses were instantaneous from her perspective, they may not be from yours. Also, it requires less suspension of disbelief.

Andrew has said he hasn’t seen the forum-time dilation some others have mentioned. I believe the default is that forum-time at least approximately matches real-time, at least for people with real-time-capable manifestations (if you get a daily newsletter then obviously forum time doesn’t match if you want to post more than once per day).
Andrew has also had to adjust times of PMs somewhat anyway: he said he would do something soon, and then something minor came up for me IRL. I did it several hours later; practically nothing could have prevented Andrew from doing it within a few minutes unless it was a plot-relevant emergency. It wouldn’t be too weird to IC consider the response close-to-instant even if it isn’t OOC.

I've been playing forum time and Leaf's home time as matching on the scale of days, and when I'm threading leafy glowfic on DW I usually have Leaf respond to forum events approximately as they are happening on my end, but I've also gone along with small timebends like the thing Daniel mentioned.

From the Condensed thread, referencing this post: In vague terms to not be spoilery: I suspect the Vow would not stop him. Whatever harm might be done by attracting otherworldly attention has already been done; if anything, this forum represents an opportunity to protect against the threats accidentally courted by the first post. Still, it's a reasonable enough retirement option if that's the way we're going. I agree broadly with this assessment, but please don't discuss things in the Condensed thread!

Of course. (And thanks for the prompt action, and don't worry about it - we all make mistakes.)

I already respnoded in PM. I disagree; unless he finds out about Esthfora before finding out about memetic hazards it is too dangerous to be on this forum at all. My plans involved him somehow doing that, testing Esthfora with the secret from the Humanism arc, and then lurking without posting. I realized that these weren’t particularly plausible (posting wouldn’t cause much more harm, but he probably would find that memetic hazards might be on the board before he finds that a protection is too).

The forum is a big heaping load of unknown unknowns.
That means that while there certainly is a risk relating to memetic hazards, there could easily be a bigger active risk that can only be dealt with by going on the forum and finding out what it is, and the only way to tell whether there is or not is to go on the forum and find out what it is.
I don't remember the exact wording of the Vow, but I remember a strong sense that it was well-crafted enough not to shoot itself in the foot; and if that's the case, I think it would leave the question of whether or not to engage with the forum up to Harry's personal judgment, because there is no path that qualifies as a safe default. It might constrain him in how he could engage with the forum, of course - I'm sure he'll be taking a lot of precautions, until and probably even after he notices Esthfora.

... Well. Okay then. Yes, feel free to make her very sorely traumatized. ME will continue to be very apologetic. Not necessarily regretful, because as far as he knew he didn't really have better ideas at the time, but definitely apologetic and trying to fix things. No worries at all! I wouldn't expect any thing less and by no means let my character's hurt feelings assume any of it is directed at you. As far as I am concerned personally, this is all crunchy character development in my mind, though I wasn't expecting Hadassah to so quickly be hit by so many belief effects. --- Continuing on the basic idea of why Pantheon as a whole would probably not appreciate true comprehension: None of the gods in Pantheon are considered fallible or infallible directly. Most assume that the gods rarely lie (except for the ones that do lie all the time) and that everything they say tends to be metaphor or opinion, not absolute truth (unless they talk directly about rules, which still may be up to some interpretation). When Greek stories are examined, they are considered parables and lessons, not Truth. When lessons taught by African gods about events that created the world, it is considered not direct fact, but a story and metaphor, meant to teach and guide or provide rules. .Gods are deliberately obtuse when asked direct questions about evolution, astronomy, and archeology are asked to them. When a god claims absolute dominion over something (like Hades and the underworld) it *is* absolute, except when another god is sharing the domain. People simply have to have faith in gods, not absolute comprehension If a god used absolute comprehension, they would probably lose the faith in they gain from their followers, or even remove a human from being able to worship any god, because their faith is gone. Besides, if Meletiti used absolute comprehension on a society that relies even more heavily on metaphor, like those in the "Messenger" thread, it may also be uncomfortable for them. --- anyway, I am done rambling on this topic, I just wanted to make sure it made a little more sense.

The exact wording was not magically binding, the well-crafted intent was. It definitely wouldn’t be up to Harry’s personal judgment; he would have to consult Hermione too. Since he is personally supposed to bring about the end of the world, I think they might decide that he could not go on the forum; since he already may have done so with the first two posts, they might decide that going on the forum mitigates the damage. I also thought the Vow might stop the depicted experiment in the first place, since it wasn’t the exact same one he did in the story, hence why I said it might already be AU relative to canon Methods. In any case, I’m not qualified to run the account for more than a few cleanup posts (I considered it untidy to leave things as they were), so if people object to my cleanup I won’t do anything.

Inavet (aka Nope) has asked Andrew to stop asking so many questions about Facet magic. I enjoyed writing those questions because Andrew would totally ask (he was ignorant of Inavet’s existence and he deemed it safe because Facet magic didn’t exist elsewhere), and I knew it would likely cause some problems for Inavet.

Inavet (mysterious elven fugitive) is kind of pissed at Andrew! She thinks he is awful at infosec.

Now I'm curious how the Messenger people would react. They generally seem to want people to "join their dancing,"; I'm not sure if this would count as cheating or something.
