How well do the systems of life in other worlds cope with introduction of new life, both sedentary and mobile?

It's often fine, but occasionally disastrous. Sometimes a newly introduced species outcompetes native life and spreads quickly over a large area, disrupting ecosystems. I've attached an article on the topic. Attachments:

Long ago, the animals of Tall Tree Island lived in harmony. Then the howler wasps came to nest in the tall tree. Any animal a howler wasp didn't like, it stung. Any animal that tried to fight a howler wasp, it ate. And no animal could sting or bite the howler wasps back.
Everything was terrible for the other animals. Until one brave fire ferret burned down the tall tree and all the howler wasps died.
