So, zombies. Many of them had shield generators. It remains a problem. Additionally, someone crash-landed not far from the zombies as they were approaching. The cyborg went out to rescue her, but pirates picked that exact moment to show up and start a 'siege', which involved setting up a mortar to shoot at our fortifications, and that took priority over a rescue.
After the cyborg killed a couple of the pirates, they decided chasing him was a better idea than setting up their siege camp; he led them into the zombies. Now there are more zombies, but the distraction gave the cyborg a chance to rescue the woman from the ship who crash-landed. Her name is Astra, apparently. We're giving her the best care we can, but it is unclear whether she'll survive the ambient conditions. She seems to be very distressed about something, but it is not altogether clear to me what her problem is (besides the obvious radiation, incipient heatstoke, and her various broken bones from the crash).
A medical supply ship is in orbit; Astra seems to have come from it? On purpose? The cyborg sent them some more of his samples.

I am not unfamiliar with zombie attacks, but the addition of nuclear fallout, and pirates willing to stage a siege during one, sounds rather grim.
That said... did Astra just get herself killed in a random universe?

Zenith has some interesting properties that resulted in a smaller sub-self of mine manifesting inside it, rather than my whole existence. It would probably be least wrong to think of her as my child.
I am not particularly amused by this, to say the least.

(it's been a while since we've seen a trade ship, summarizing the events of the month quickly)
The mess with the zombies was cleared up pretty readily; without the interference of pirates, it was a series of relatively straightforward runs by the cyborg (who can outrun them easily, and shoot them until they die, retreating if necessary). They'll need bigger numbers to pose a real threat, but they'll have them before long.
Astra managed to recover, and has been working with us. There's something strange about her; she seems very distressed about everything, and is complaining about being 'forced to work'. Um, yeah? We all sort of are. It is a thing; the cyborg is boss, because he's got the biggest gun. She did, however, make the most comfortable pants *ever*. It's like a god of tailoring slaughtered its prize Muffalo specifically so that its tanned skin would perfectly hug my ass. I love them. <3
She spent a few days working around the compound and helping the cyborg with his sinister experiments, before she inexplicably vanished. I have no idea where she ran off to; it's not safe out there! The strange thing is, there's a sort of weird afterimage in her room... no, that's not the word. It's like there's a thing not there that should be. I've heard about psychic phenomena, and this feels like it; it's weird and eerie.
Pirates attacked the base, and did a real number on the fortifications, this time; they almost broke through! The cyborg captured one of them after shooting an arm and a leg off, and I think he's decided to torture her to death; he hauled her other arm and leg... and, like, her *eyes* out of the prisoner room afterwards. The screaming is horrible. I think he's pissed off; he went and got properly drunk afterwards. I wasn't aware the cyborg could DO drunk? (Speaking of booze; a small cargo of sake bottles crash-landed shortly before Astra left. It kind of helps.)
A big rainstorm passed through from a new direction, and seems to have washed away the worst of the fallout. The outside isn't really 'livable' anymore, but it won't be 'actively hazardous' to us through the suits. We're still working on getting hydroponics set up, but the project is coming along nicely.
We cracked open the old cryo-vault next to the fortress the other day. Most of the occupants were insane, as tends to be the case with the old vaults (and needed to be shot, accordingly), but we managed to restrain and treat one of them. He seems... pretty stupid, actually, but we can probably convince him to haul things for us, given some time.
Another trade ship arrived, wanting more of the clothing of the dead. We've got a lot of that, now. Unfortunately, another 30 or so zombies arrives right on top of it. Looks like another fight today, followed by a lot of corpse-hauling...

I had to help the cyborg fight off zombies, the other day. He needed the covering fire to keep them off the fortifications. Each wave is just that much harder than the last. I wonder how much longer we can hold out?
We set up an auto-turret to defend the east gate. We'll be getting more up as we can cobble together the needed electronics.
More slavers, today. Unfortunately, the cyborg deemed it prudent to trade with them. He had... parts to sell them. Also, since he's managed to get some silver stockpiled from the sale of random zombie clothing, he elected to take issue with a 'potential breach of quarantine', and bought a couple of slaves that had opted to 'flee' aboard the slave ship. They were... unhappy about this turn of events, to say the least. But the cyborg insists that we need more people to maintain the fort, and I'm forced to agree with him. I'm not sure if this is a 'necessary evil' or merely 'delaying the inevitable', though...

Can you make a web to catch the zombies? Webs are good for catching flies and gnats. Are zombies like flies?

Right, I think personally traveling to Zenith's world might be a bad idea, just based on Astra. That doesn't rule out the ability to send items. The coin worked, sort of.
*ahem*
Zenith, this is the merchant vessel. We can send supplies, please send us a list of materials and items that you require and we will see about sending them to you.

It sounds like they may require some weapons? The OTC sells several varieties. That would be a place to start I suppose. Perhaps food as well?

Do you prefer an alive lizard or a dead lizard?

Current guess is: nonperishable nourishing food, weapons, armor that can stand up to heat and radiation, seeds to grow their own food, materials to fortify with, and probably more ordinary things like blankets and clothes and soap.

Dec 6, 5500
(I have changed the timestamp format for clarity, as there are some errors in earlier log entries.)
The attacks continue to increase in intensity. Someone sent a Scyther Drone into the midst of the fort via orbital drop-pod, and I had to play distraction while the cyborg took it out with his railgun (not fun!).
A refugee was chased to our fortress by about 30 pirates; a cop from a small town that collapsed in the wake of the plague. Armed fighters are considerably more challenging to deal with than zombies, but the auto-turret we set up earlier held their attention long enough for us to break their assault. The cop decided to stick around and help with the defences; we need all the assistance we can get!
A wiring accident nearly cost us our hydroponics crop, but I managed to repair the damage in time to save it. Between the produce coming out of hydroponics and the meat we obtained from a group of enormous mutant beavers that wandered into the area (assessed as 'probably safe to eat' by the medic), we should be able to hold out for a while longer.
Unfortunately, a group of marines came by yesterday, with orders to investigate the ruins of a nearby facility, thought to be linked to the plague. He took three people with him to investigate, which leaves me here with the medic and the slaves; hardly an ideal combination, if another serious attack comes! I guess I'm in charge here, for now?
A pirate ship is in orbit, now; they're weirdly friendly and talkative, like some of the others have been, and seem to be asking me what supplies I think we need. Perhaps the pirate group we drove off earlier was one of their rivals?
---Pirate Vessel---
I am suspicious of your intentions, but if you're interested in making a supply run for us, we've got some silver on hand to pay you with.
Our primary supply need at this time is food. We have working refrigeration, and as such have no problem accepting perishable food. Lizard meat sounds... pretty tasty, actually. Speaking in longer terms, the requirements of a sealed hydroponics area for agriculture are more limiting to us at the moment than our supply of seeds. To expand that, and to improve our fortifications, we are certainly interested in any Concrete you can supply. For that matter, we'd even be willing to purchase Sand. We're able to mix up our own Concrete on-site, given appropriate materials, but it is extremely time-consuming to grind up assorted boulders to produce Concrete.
Regarding weaponry: everyone here is currently armed, but with a somewhat random collection of scavenged weapons; higher-quality firearms, especially sniper-type rifles, would be useful. Armour is probably unwise, as most of it would interfere with containment suits, but we'd consider acquiring a reasonably-priced suit of environmental power armour, if available. Traps are generally ineffective against the numbers zombies bring, though I suppose we might rig up some land mines if we got our hands on some proper explosives. We are also interested in medical supplies, though we appreciate that current demand makes them exorbitantly expensive at the moment.
Finally, if you have other assorted supplies available, it'd improve conditions somewhat if we could get our hands on some cloth. We're currently all sleeping on improvised hide beds; it'd be nice to get some proper beds built, so we can sleep a little easier.
