Archangel: Dotted Lines has a power that lets him see how things are organized, especially vague and menacing secret organizations like the Foundation, and also sometimes gives him intuitions about how they do things. Would you like this ability to apply to the Foundation, and if so, would you like him to say how they knew the people were singing the contents of the threads?
...it hasn't occurred to me until now, but technically Leaf works for a menacing organization, although it's not especially vague and somewhat less than secret - I refer of course to Barrayaran Imperial Security. Is this something Dotted Lines might pick up on? Do you want to go anywhere with that? Just a thought.
He could totally pick up on that! He's probably less likely to if nothing's said that makes him look in that direction, because there's a lot of information constantly available to him, and things about structures in other worlds are harder to see if he's not specifically looking for them. ImpSec is menacing and secret enough to have a secret mercenary army. It's very similar to the kinds of agencies he's used to looking at at home, although less vague, and less evil. I'd like to go somewhere with that if you would, although I'm not sure what direction?
If at any time Leaf says something in public that you think might make Dotted Lines twig to the existence of ImpSec, feel free to nudge me about it and we can decide what sort of information he picks up on, and you can decide whether he says anything. Would he be likely to publicly inquire about Leaf's vague and menacing secret organization, or contact him privately, or keep quiet, or what?
Still two. He hasn’t had nearly enough time to increase it the slow way, and there are several reasons his recent panic did not increase it by XP gain. For one thing, he didn’t win yet; for another, the danger isn’t immediate.
Yes. I'm also giving him 10 MP for my estimate of the number of times something suitably harrowing happened during his childhood. The events of The Warrior's Apprentice come out to something like 70 MP total. God knows what I'm going to get out of The Vor Game.
So, after totaling up my estimates for everything I remember happening onscreen-or-explicitly-mentioned in canon and adding in further estimates for about how much harrowing shit I expect him to have gone through that won't have made it to the page, this thrill-seeking little shit is going to start off with 195 MP.
The Foundation has people who've survived a lot of life-and-death encounters, but not many who've done it to the extent a protagonist like Leaf has. They do have SCPs that repeatably cause paralyzing fear (303 is the best I know of right now, but I'm sure there are more) so max MP shouldn't be a constraint for long.
