Oh, and I have a crazy hypothesis about measuretwice’s world which probably isn’t the right answer. Andrew doesn’t share the hypothesis, but he was* confused by one of the things measuretwice said which nobody else was, and which is evidence for my crazy hypothesis.
I don’t want to share my crazy hypothesis until I’ve reread measuretwice’s posts and Andrew has actually asked about that thing on the forum.
*Or will be. I’ve already caught up on almost all the threads, and I was reading them how Andrew would, but as I said I don’t know how he returns to the forum so I can’t say he’s actually read them yet.

If you take the infosec one then how about Mother Starlight makes an announcement that Gabriael has been banned and Andrew decides that it's a lot safer for him to post now?
Otherwise: Andrew plays with black hole, he dies, but his logged in computer takes longer to be sucked into the black hole. His computer synched time with the forum, meaning Andrew can't log in until the computer is destroyed. No wait, that would make the opposite happen.

A combination, maybe?
He died, woke up as an angel, decided that this was perhaps a wakeup call and/or an opportunity to pursue hobbies more fulfilling than "security risk"; he notifies some people that he is now an angel and will be posting less frequently because (infosec concerns + busy angeling + busy working on max MP)?

Dr. Realist moved to D'ni.
1.b. seems like the best one. MS probably could connect to both Heaven and Earth, but it's not necessarily easy for her to do so, so she can just not get around to it within the forseeable future. Similarly, she could fail to pay enough attention to notice the black hole time dilation, while leaving open the possibility of her noticing at some appropriate future moment.
It might be wise to avoid daevas interacting with OTC due to fire.

Andrew lives in Daevinity, not Eventide. Daevinity is just like the regular Earth as far as everyday citizens are concerned. Andrew knows better, but nobody could stop the Sun unless they put a black hole there or something.
A combination approach could work, as could MS realizing that the connection was screwy instead of something changing on Andrew’s end. Now that I think about it more, only allowing connections from Earth wouldn’t actually work well because summons are much rarer in 1995 than in 2159. If the connection was only available in Heaven and he made appointments for repeat summonses, though, that could work.
I looked at many of the OTC catalog entries but not all. As far as I can tell, daeva can mint arbitrary amounts of dynes, but otherwise shouldn’t be more of a problem than anybody else interacting with the OTC. Several other forumgoers can also mint arbitrary amounts (either by masochism or by rejuvenation), so that isn’t too much of a problem. None of the OTC’s products that I read looked especially dangerous in the hands of daeva, either. The only particularly hot fire I could find was the ability for the OTC to interdimensionally transport daeva, but in most cases they seem more careful than that (random cats notwithstanding). Could you please clarify where the fire you’re thinking of is?

I'm thinking of the possibility of daeva supplying large quantities of otherwise scarce non-currency commodities to the OTC. I suppose we already have multiple Cernnuous minters here, but it's still worth thinking twice. The existence of the OTC means that all superpowers are fungible; there is no longer any such thing as 'extremely useful within narrow limits'.

Daeva are basically half of my reason for making the OTC in the way that I have, because 'arbitrary amounts of matter' is a thing that breaks 99% of currency systems right in half. OTC is supposed to be able to deal with that kind of conjuration.

Hi -- I stumbled across this via alicorn's forums. This place looks really neat -- is this still a thing that is happening? Does one just jump in? Are there any conventions I should be aware of (besides the obvious stuff covered in the pinned posts)? /awkward newbie

Is there a time when people generally show up to chat? I would say it's usually in about two or three hours from now, if I had to guess. It's been a while since I've been around, though. And no, you're not messing things up at all! :3 (Feel free to drop in on the OTC thread. :3)
