This post originally referred to the powers of "a Rae-style god"; Raezenoth had recently declined a request to take the discussion to the magic thread.

Ahrotahn's post format here is pleasingly setting-evocative.

There is a puzzle to measuretwice's world. I hope that I will be able to give enough clues for someone to spot it.

Okay, I have to ask.
Am I the only one getting frequent, if brief, DNS errors at random times while trying to access Dreamwidth and less frequently this forum? (That occur while every other website I think to check comes up fine.)

At least one other person on IRC was having DNS issues with the forum today.

I get angry bear errors with the forum occasionally. I don't remember any problems with Dreamwidth.

The reference to hypnotism in the Sexuality thread has been retconned. The unhappened posts are in the Waiting Room.

Dungeon has rolled out an update: past trauma no longer counts toward starting MP. Further details here.

Andrew has been gone from the forum since shortly before the party. Out of universe, this is because I’ve been quite busy and haven’t been able to keep up with everything. In universe, I have no clue why this could be. This is complicated by the fact that he set up a deadman switch, the fact that he invited Dr. Realist to live in his world (after the Xom incident), and the fact that he was posting right up until there was a party and then he never showed up at the party. I’m not sure how Dr. Realist or Andrew’s party absence were handled; I haven’t read the party Dreamwidth thread or any later one. I would like to get back into the MWF. Does anybody have suggestions for why Andrew hasn’t been here? So far, I have: - Was experimenting with black hole containment, there was a mistake. This caused him to become an angel, and also potentially caused temporal sync issues (because of black hole gravity). These sync issues could be temporary or permanent. There are several ways this could go:
- The black hole’s distortion of time around Andrew caused permanent temporal sync issues. I can spend arbitrary amounts of time away from the forum without Andrew being able to do anything about this. The problem is that I would prefer Andrew-time and forum-time to synchronize under some circumstances, and I’m not sure that could be reasonable under temporal de-sync
- The temporal de-sync was temporary: several months passed for the forum while Andrew was affected by black hole gravity for a few minutes, but then he died. His failsafe was not triggeed because it would go off only a few hours after his death. As an angel, he either accesses the forum from Heaven, accepts a summons and accesses it from Earth, or fails to access the forum and sends out an automated “I have recently died” message. If for some reason Mother Starlight can fail to set up a connection to both Heaven and Earth simultaneously, then I can access the forum unpredictably (because of the unpredictable nature of summons) while still allowing time to be synchronized from now on. I’m not sure if that solution would actually work, though; he would probably stuff from OTC and get a more reliable forum connection even if Mother Starlight couldn’t provide one.
- He realized he was an infosec disaster, and decided that the best way to stop that was to just not post anything and to blow off the party. He would start posting again now if he were better enough at infosec issues to be confident it was safe. The problem there is that I’m not that good at infosec. Mostly, Andrew makes infosec mistakes by me trying to write him in realtime and by me not actually caring nearly as much about fictional infosec as I would about real-life infosec. I thus don’t check his posts as carefully as I would my own, and thus make mistakes that way.
- He could have taken a vacation for some other purpose, such as to study at improving his max MP. It seems unlikely he would do this right before the party and with no warning, though.
I am strongly leaning towards the first option here, preferably the second branch, but there are problems with all of these and I’d like further suggestions.
