I've heard of someone who was sacrificed and then got better. I think he was fictional, but not everyone agrees about that.

... Except they would be under the impression that I was dead. Why would you build a real body for a fictional character that didn't exist? Well, they still write stories about Star Swirl the Bearded, and everyone knows he is really dead and has been for a long long time. I would think most fictional characters don't exist until someone builds a body for them. Oh, and thank you Mother Starlight, for moving the discussion. I was feeling rather bad for derailing the conversation, which was actually rather important. Edit: However, be careful, there might be magics out there which does not work like that, so you should always check with safe targets before sacrificing important things that don't exist. Imagine if someone sacrificed you now, not knowing you are no longer imaginary! Edit: On second thought, this whole thing is highly confusing. Someone who knows more about this issue should start inventing some proper technical terms.

I have some terminology!
I think we're confusing 'uninstatiated' people with 'fictional' people, and also 'fictional' people with 'constructed' people.
Constructed people are people built deliberately by other people, such that their creators had a deliberate effect on their personality. Tyche, Miku and most other AGI probably fit in this category. Most fictional people are also constructed people.
Uninstantiated people are people who do not currently have bodies or other 'hardware' to run their consciousnesses on. Most dead people are uninstantiated, as are most fictional people.
It's really hard to differentiate 'fictional' people from 'uninstantiated constructed people', unless the currently-uninstantiated constructed person was once instantiated. It gets especially murky when established conciousnesses construct fictional characters and then simulate them within their own minds.
Some individuals have been known to deliberately construct sentients to run on their own operating system. This sort of constructed person, who's sharing a body with their creator, is sometimes known as a Tulpa. Even more fuzzily, sometimes people can arise from the actions of a group. This sort of distributed infomorph being simulated on many minds at once is known as an Egregore. The constructed person that was instantiated as Miku was (and still is!) probably an Egregore.
Ultimately, conciousness is fuzzy and hard to define. Error on the side of caution whenever possible. I mean, there are universes where rocks are alive.

Oh my, that is very concerning. I was thinking about uninstantiated people. I apologize if I implied I would sacrifice actual sapient beings. As far as I know I never sacrificed anything with a real mind... except that one Manticore in self defense.

Sacrificing an uninstantiated person is still a Bad Thing! Tyche has probably spent periods of zir life uninstantiated! Please do not sacrifice uninstantiated people!
(Also don't mispronoun people.)

Might be better. Because I really do not understand the issue. How could someone be affected by it if ze doesn't yet exist?

My Magic is pretty flexible on what counts as a valid sacrifice. I am planning to sacrifice a Forest soon, in a ritual requiring the sacrifice of a person. I will thus trick my Magic into believing the forest is a person. This takes a lot of mental discipline. My previously very advanced age caused me to need to stay in that mode of thought a little too much, making communication difficult. I will never sacrifice anything that is REALLY a person. Edit: Homicide? What made you think I would sacrifice a minibar? What would that even get you?

*pokes translation* Homicide means killing a person, not killing a minibar.

A minibar is a small cooled box which contains beverages. If you take some of these you have to pay the owner afterwards. They often have HOMI printed on them. Oh, now that I think about it the word ponicide used to be used for all kinds of people, but caedes is the more inclusive term, I try to be mindful of everyperson. Mostly because Mr Fluffles insists though, many dragons, donkeys, minotaurs and even yaks use "foopony" where applicable.
