Andrew, my manifestation has different styles and motifs in the illumination used in each book and chapter. The word you described as a "link" is not written in the same style as the rest of this session. Moreover, upon attempting to locate a corresponding style, I immediately turned to the correct page (in the Index and Worlds chapter of the News and Information book), even though I had only a weak memory of where it might be. I suspect this latter was a magical effect. Addendum: I see that in my own writing the references to Index and Worlds and News and Information are distinctly styled as in the above "link". Additionally I wish to see what happens when I inscribe additional words by my own writing.

Cardea, I cannot see ultraviolet, but the way your writing system works is very different from the way mine works. For me, color does not convey the meaning of written words in at least most cases; my writing works by having lines in certain shapes (called “letters”) written on a two-dimensional surface. The right letters in the right order form words. Words usually correspond to basic concepts, and when put in the right order can form sentences, which are usually-simple relationships of how those concepts interact. A series of sentences can express more complicated ideas. For especially complicated ideas, we often break the series of sentences into multiple paragraphs. I don’t know the writing system used in the original message, but I would expect it to be one suited for the species who usually uses it. For example, if a large fraction of their population cannot see ultraviolet, I doubt they will use a system that requires it; if they cannot distinguish one squiggly line from another, I doubt they use one similar to my system. In any case, the mangling for your writing system seems to approximate that for mine. I don't know if my reply here is still on topic for this, perhaps it would be better in another place, but the thing I am replying to is in this place. I have attached a noteleaf to my messages, the way Leaf attaches an empty leaf to his, but when I view my own messages the leaf is coloured appropriately with nothing missing. The usual way of writing is to apply dyes to the noteleaf and to use magic to subtract the dye from the places that mean the wrong things. This is much faster than painting the dye in only the right places being careful to make the lines and curves right. The more dyes used, the clearer the message. There is meaning in shapes and orientations and colours and position on the noteleaf and distance to other shapes and contrast between neighbouring colours. The broad shape of the message is discerned from the shapes and positions but most of the shades of meaning are in the colours. Due to its size, a noteleaf cannot hold much more information than a person's wings can hold in speech, but writing is slower than speaking and there can be more precision, the words will last long enough to see all of them instead of fading into the next utterance. I am not permitted to learn magic even for writing so I must write slowly with my hands, only adding and never subtracting. I am glad the translator magic seems to be working so well; I am not accustomed to being understood. I think over time it will continue getting better at understanding my intent.

I'm glad Mage is okay. I would be very surprised if this place or any of its manifestations was really dangerous, but I'm not at all sure I understand what is/was going on with you and Mage and the mirror.

I think I would call a wildebeest dangerous, especially if it is unexpected and people are carrying spillable hot liquids like coffee.

There is dangerous as in "you might spill coffee on yourself" and there is dangerous as in "you might die or be seriously injured".
This forum might be the first one, if the 3359 people weren't lying about that part; I have the strong impression that it is not the second. I don't have any concrete evidence to base that on, mind you, but all I said was that I would be very surprised.

I think it might be fun to have the forum related in a song and dance number! Mother Starlight, can you have that happen for my world?

For your entire world, Prism? What if you want to tell a friend about this place and they don't like singing or dancing? You'd have to change it back.
And if I'm understanding right, what happened with 3359 was that a bunch of people who hadn't even used the forum before ended up singing and dancing at whoever needed notifications. That sounds like a pretty high risk of making somebody sing or dance who does not want to sing or dance. Plus the people who sang/danced the forum at you would be very confused afterward even if they did have fun, and you'd have to explain... I don't know, it just seems like it wouldn't be nearly as fun and silly as you think.

Leaf, there is also dangerous is in "your mind might be forcibly rewritten by a hostile entity", which is, to be honest, what I have been more concerned about. And -- wildebeests aside -- what would be easier to cause across something like this with inadequate protections, at least in those universes which work in compatible ways.

Kobold no of language; magic is of dangerous sometimes. Mage is do of magic; if mage do of right magic, is of safe. If mage do of wrong magic, magic thing do of strange, sometimes big strange, sometimes small strange; if magic thing is of safe, mage safe, but not know. If magic thing not is of safe, mage safe day, two day, three day maybe; time for do of break magic thing; if no is of break, mage die. Many times if magic thing is of break, mage die. Other person kinds, do of right magic always; other person kinds is of language, teach magic is of safe.

Maybe there's a way to make it so that only people that want to can join in?

Thorn - yeah, but that's not a problem intrinsic to the manifestation, it's a problem of what is communicated using the forum. Completely different domain. I can think of lots of ways to use this forum to communicate harmful things, and my world doesn't even have active memetic hazards of the kinds I've been hearing about. I am not going to do any of that, because I'm not evil.
lurkingkobold: I think I might understand better now. Your world has magic, but it's dangerous magic, and because kobolds don't use language very much, it's hard for kobolds to learn magic safely? Is that right?

Leaf: Oh, I see what you mean. I can think of some ways it could present an hazard just by manifesting, but based on descriptions so far it may be designed to avoid that. (I find myself mildly curious how many of the harmful things you are imagining are conditioned on access to this forum spreading to other persons on your world)
lurkingkobold: So if the mage was in danger from this happening, it would killed him by now? I am uncertain how your days correspond to ours. --Or whether I am even understanding you correctly at all.
