Indentured servitude exists, but it is pretty heavily regulated. I think politics is pushing us away from even that in the next few years though.

To be fair, slavery is all but eradicated in the modern world countries of Pantheon, but machine sentience is not universally recognized yet. South America is still wild and dangerous with pocket nations, and no one tells how the Native Lands should run their country. Are there absolutely no remaining vestiges of slavery, legal or illegal in your world? I mean, even kidnapping is a form of temporary slavery. Also, I imagine a deity with freedom as a domain would deign not to appreciate intentured servitude. It would be like asking a fire if it wants water in it. Not that I intend to speak for a deity, local or not. Please forgive any impertinence. I am unoffended. Your characterization is apt, and also correct. I am very clear about what sorts of things offend me, you will not do so by speaking freely. There are no vestiges of slavery on the continent where I make my domain. It's possible that there are places outside of my sight where it exists, however.

So this a thread for complaining, right? Good, 'cause I've got a TON of crap I need to get off my chest.
I just had the absolute WORST day, I swear. Someone - jury's out on whether they were homicidally stupid or just plain old homicidal - let a bunch of defective simulacra loose right in the middle of one of the most crowded and least well-defended residential sectors in the city. Naturally, the things immediately dispersed and started attacking anything that moved, and guess who was right in the middle of the whole mess? Yup, right in one: this girl!
So after being stabbed halfway to the Hells, I managed to mop up all the rogue constructs. Good, right? Noooope - my freaking boss showed up all serious-like, and AS I WAS GETTING EMERGENCY HEALING, informed me that I'd just been caught vandalizing CORE assets! Evidently, those simulacra came from a CORE vault, which I guess makes me stopping them from going on a murderous rampage a breach of Sanctum law??? Yeah, I don't get it either - there has GOT to be something they're not telling me.
So anyway, now I have to go to a disciplinary hearing day after tomorrow, I'm still bloody sore from getting stabbed, and on top of everything else I just got a message from my freaking ex asking for a some sort of favor.
What the HELLS, life?
...Uh, hope that wasn't TMI - it just feels good to vent a bit. Hope everyone's had a better day than I have!

That sounds really irritating, Mira. I'm sorry to hear it.

Er, would someone mind describing rice cakes for me? I haven't had the pleasure of eating one, at least not by that name.

Rice cakes are great! They're made out of rice (a type of grain), pushed into a short wide cylinder shape, sometimes with seasonings, and cooked! They're a great source of starch food without any wheat or wheat byproducts!

Is gluten sensitivity a big problem on your world?

Some people are allergic to gluten. But wheat and wheat byproducts have been illegal for around 3 years.

Why?
I get the feeling the answer is that some vague and menacing organization you trust completely said so.

Actually, right before the ban, all wheat and wheat byproducts turned into 3 foot long venomous snakes, and then later into powerful evil destructive spirits. Luckily, my step-daughter is actually allergic to gluten, so we didn't have any in the house, and we made it to the shelter in time.
After that event, wheat and wheat byproducts have been illegal, although Big Rico's Pizza was recently discovered to have a wheat and wheat byproduct speakeasy in its basement, and everything seemed to be fine when it was shut down, but that might just be because Big Rico is such a nice person and issued such a sincere apology, and was immediately forgiven.

3 foot long venomous snakes? I should stop eating wheat and wheat byproducts, I don't want to have to deal with snakes!

@ Dispersive Prism, I think the event was probably local of my world. Later we looked and it turned out someone had even made a prophecy about it. You're probably fine unless your world also has a prophecy about wheat and wheat byproducts.
